What Do WE Do?

Not all counsellors and therapists work in the same way and there are many different approaches, your counsellor will be happy to discuss their approach with you and answer any questions you might have. A comprehensive assessment is always carried out before your therapy starts to ensure that your needs can be safely accommodated. If it is identified that you would benefit from a particular approach that isn’t provided by Room To Talk, where possible, a referral will be made on your behalf, or you will be signposted to an organisation where you can access the help you need.

It is the responsibility of your counsellor to ensure you feel safe enough to fully engage in the therapeutic process, that’s why all our counsellors and therapists work to the ethical standards of either their professional or governing body. You will find links to these organisations within our useful links section. Please use the contact us page if you would like to ask any questions regarding this, or anything else related to your counselling or psychotherapy.

Room To Talk offer one-to-one therapy sessions and a variety of group interventions. We work both privately and within HMP YOI Styal.

“When I came to Styal it was a complete shock, I was lost. My confidence and self-worth vanished, I had issues with trust so letting people in my space to help was alien to me. I had given up on myself and couldn’t see why anyone would want to help, until I met my counsellor. My barriers began to fall and I knew you cared and believed in me, because of you, I’m about to leave prison and start a new life and I’m looking forward to it”.
